[about a tattoo]

Salmarnir*
[Underoath – Define the Great Line]

*The mighty one, God the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.
Our God comes and does not keep silent, a devouring fire is before him, and a mighty tempest all around him.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.
He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people: “Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge.

* Salmarnir is a ice-landic word for the bible book of Psalm.

* PS 50:(…) stands for the versicle for the following scripture.

* The scripture it self is read in Russian by the cousin of Underoath keyboard player, Chris Dudley.

* This part is yelled by Chris himself, and is the translation for English of the Psalm 50 (read before in Russian).

* In an internet forum someone posted the information that the Russian spoke in the beginning of the music is actually some kind of colloquial English, primely used in churches in the antique.

[Finally the Copeland song. Even though the theme of the album is well known, is really hard to find information about the songs. The only thing that the band is sure to state is about how personal and honest album is.]

“Priceless*
[Copeland – Beneath Medicine Tree*]

I remember when I’d run to you*
Through fields of white flowers
Your embrace was my air
How I needed you there
All of the world and all of its powers
Couldn’t keep your love from me

‘Cause I need you like the dragonfly’s wings need the wind
Like the orphan needs home once again
Like heaven needs more to come in
I need you here like you’ve always been

Then I waved goodbye to you*
From fields of white flowers
You were so proud of me
I was too proud to see
That all of the world and all of it’s powers
Couldn’t keep your love from me…

I need you like the dragonfly’s wings need the wind
Like the orphan needs home once again
Like heaven needs more to come in
I need you here like you’ve always been

Taking for granted all of her smiles that got away

Now I’m looking up at you
From fields of white flowers
You were so proud of me
I’m so proud of you
All of the world and all of its powers
Couldn’t keep your love from me

* In same releases the name of this song appears as Priceless (for Eleanor).

* This Copeland album has a hospital theme. The theme came from the moment that lead singer – and major writer – Aaron was going thought, the songs were written during 3 years before the album were record, and during this period Aaron had to deal with a sick girlfriend (that later became his wife) and the death of his grandmother. The theme can be seen even by the album cover: http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/3183DN2YVVL._AA240_.jpg

* This part is about the childrenhood with this grama: Eleanor

* Originally Aaron wrote the song to sing it in his grama funeral, but later it became part of the album.

[It was all set to write about a Copeland song, but this one cought my attention last night, so here we go. God Bless Youtube]

“Hey There Delilah*
[Plain White T’s – All That We Need]
Hey there Delilah,
What’s it like in New York City*?
I’m a thousand miles away,
But girl tonight you look so pretty*,
Yes you do,
Time Square can’t shine as bright as you,
I swear it’s true.

Hey there Delilah,
Don’t you worry about the distance*,
I’m right there if you get lonely,
Give this song another listen,
Close your eyes,
Listen to my voice it’s my disguise,
I’m by your side.

Oh it’s what you do to me,
What you do to me.

Hey there Delilah,
I know times are getting hard,
But just believe me girl some day,
I’ll pay the bills with this guitar*,
We’ll have it good,
We’ll have the life we knew we would,
My word is good.

Hey there Delilah,
I’ve got so much left to say,
If every simple song I wrote to you*,
Would take your breath away,
I’d write it all,
Even more in love with me you’d fall,
We’d have it all.

Oh it’s what you do to me.

A thousand miles seems pretty far,
But they’ve got planes and trains and cars,
I’d walk to you if I had no other way,
Our friends would all make fun of us,
And we’ll just laugh along because,
We know that none of them have felt this way,
Delilah I can promise you,
That by the time that we get through,
The world will never ever be the same,
And you’re to blame.

Hey there Delilah you be good,
And don’t you miss me,
Two more years and you’ll be done with school,
And I’ll be making history,
Like I do,
You’ll know it’s all because of you,
We can do whatever we want to,
Hey there Delilah here’s to you,
This one’s for you.

Oh it’s what you do to me,
What you do to me.”

* Delilah DiCrescenzo, a steeplechase runner who has good chances in the 2008 Olympic team.

* Delilah DiCrescenzo was a student of the Columbia University, which main campus lies in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of the Borough of Manhattan, in New York City. Columbia University is member of the Ivy League (League that compress the eight private institutions of higher education located in the Northeastern United States = Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania and Yale University).

* Tom Higgenson (sing writer and Plain White T’s singer) said that Delilah DiCrescenzo “was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen”.

* While Delilah was in NYC, Tom was in Illinois where the band was born.

* Not THAT soon. The song was written for the 2005 album All That We Needed, but only in the summer of 2007 it became a hit in USA.

* Despite the fact that Tom Higgenson did wrote the song for DiCrescenzo, there was never a relationship between them. After been introduce by a mutual friend, Tom said to Delilah that she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen and that he had “a song about you (her) already”. The already was a lie, however. “Obviously, there was no song. But I thought it was smooth…”, said Tom. It took over a year for Tom to write the song to Delilah (who was already in a relationship and blew Tom off).

PS: About the band name = It was inspired by the fact that one day the band members were looking through some books with pictures of bands such as Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and James Dean, and they were all wearing white t-shirts. So the members realized how classic and timeless those bands and white T’s were. It’s the idea of timeless and accessible music.

[Woke up with is song on my mind and been singing along to it the whole day on the streets. God Bless iPod.]

“San Dimas High School Football*
[The Ataris – Blue Skies, Broken Hearts… Next 12 Exists]
Last night I had a dream that we went to Disneyland,
Went on all the rides, didn’t have to wait in line.
I took you to your house where we stared up at the stars
I listened to your heartbeat as I held you in my arms.

We hung out at the Rainbow where we drank ’till half past two.
Nothing could go wrong anytime that I’m with you.
Like crashing a hotel room or leading up to that first kiss
Or searching for a high school that you know doesn’t exist*…

These are the things that make me free
I feel like I’m stuck in stand by me
This night was too good to be true.

Today I woke up alone wishing you were here with me,
I want us to be something that we’d probably never be.
Today you called me up and said you’d see me at our show,
But now I’m stuck debating if I even want to know.

Whitney, don’t you understand that what I say is true?
I just want you to know I have a major crush on you.
I’d drive you to Las Vegas and do the things you wanna do
I’d even have Wayne Newton* dedicate a song to you.

I only wish that this could be
Just dump your boyfriend and go out with me
I swear I’d treat you like a queen. A queen.”

* The song title was inspired in the movie Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989). In the movie at on point the main character run out of thing to say during a oral exam and yells ‘San Dimas High School football rules!’

* Despite the inspiration been a fictional movie, the San Dimas High School does exist in California.

* Carson Wayne Newton is a American singer born in 1942. Newton is also a entertainer based in Las Vegas (Nevada), singing in Cassinos through the city, after a period of 40 years Newton performed over 30.000 solo shows in Vegas, earning the nickname (and status) of Mr. Las Vegas. His most known songs are ‘Daddy Don’t You Walk So Fast’, ‘Years’ and – the most popular one – ‘Danke Schloen’ (Thank You, in German).
