[Bang, Bang, You’re Dead]
Youth Of The Nation*
[P.O.D.* – Satellite]
Last day of the rest of my life
I wish I would’ve known
Cause I didn’t kiss my mama goodbye
I didn’t tell her that I loved her and how much I care
Or thank my pops for all the talks
And all the wisdom he shared
Unaware, I just did what I always do
Everyday, the same routine
Before I skate off to school
But who knew that this day wasn’t like the rest
Instead of taking a test
I took two to the chest
Call me blind, but I didn’t see it coming
Everybody was running
But I couldn’t hear nothing
Except gun blasts, it happened so fast
I don’t really know this kid
Even though I sit by him in class*
Maybe this kid was reaching out for love
Or maybe for a moment
He forgot who he was
Or maybe this kid just wanted to be hugged
Whatever it was
I know it’s because
We are, We are, the youth of the nation*
Little Suzy*, she was only twelve
She was given the world
With every chance to excel
Hang with the boys and hear the stories they tell
She might act kind of proud
But no respect for herself
She finds love in all the wrong places
The same situations
Just different faces
Changed up her pace since her daddy left her
Too bad he never told her
She deserved much better
Johnny boy* always played the fool
He broke all the rules
So you would think he was cool
He was never really one of the guys*
No matter how hard he tried
Often thought of suicide
It’s kind of hard when you ain’t got no friends
He put his life to an end
They might remember him then
You cross the line and there’s no turning back
Told the world how he felt
With the sound of a gat
Who’s to blame for the lives that tragedies claim*
No matter what you say
It don’t take away the pain
That I feel inside, I’m tired of all the lies
Don’t nobody know why
It’s the blind leading the blind
I guess that’s the way the story goes
Will it ever make sense
Somebody’s got to know
There’s got to be more to life than this
There’s got to be more to everything
I thought exist.
* This song was inspired by some school shooting that took place in the United States
* P.O.D. stands for Payable Of Death
* In March 5, 2001, a student walked into school (Santana High School) with his father´s gun and fired 30 shots, killing 2 students and wounding 13 others, in Santee, California. The shooting took place near the studio where P.O.D. was recording.
* Lead singer Sonny Sandoval: “We had done a show for some kids that went to Columbine. They wanted P.O.D. to play, just for a positive encouragement type thing. And it was always in the back of our minds, like, just what are these kids going through? This is the hardest time for kids.” And the are the future of every nation. (www.songsfacts.com)
* The real victims of this shooting were 14-year-old Bryan Zuckor and 17-year-old Randy Gordon.
* The shooter was 15-year-old Charles Williams.
* Like many students across America, Williams often complained about bullying at school site and had spoken on two occasions of his plan to “pull a Columbie” (reference to the shooting that took place at the Columbine High School, Colorado, in April 20th, 1999. “After moving to Santee (from 29 Palms, California), Williams felt he was targeted for physical and emotional bullying in school. In an attempt to fit in, he began to spend time with a crowd of skateboards, with whom he would often participate in activities such as smoking marijuana. Williams was accepted within this peer group, however, at times these individuals also teased or picked on him. In February 2001, just before his 15th birthday, Williams received news that one of his best friends from 29 Plams was killed in a bus accident”. * Guitarist Marcos Curiel: “[…] When we were writing this record, we wanted to be secluded so we went to Santee, in East San Diego, where we had this 35×35 rehearsal studio. One day we were on our way to practice, and we saw all these cops, but we didn’t know what was going on. Later we found out what had happened [the shooting]. It was an emotional situation. The main control room in the studio has a TV, and we’re watching the news on there, thinking, ‘Man, this is a mess.’ I’m the only one that doesn’t have kids, but everybody was like, ‘Dude, that could have been my kids in there,’ or ‘That could have been my sister’.” (www.songfacts.com)
Two things i see wrong from just GLANCING at this. 1, the air date for this song was in 2002. 2, The columbine shooting took place in COLORADO. not Illinois.
You are so right about the Colorado thing. Corrected that already, thank you.
But about the date the song was aired…. The quote is about writting the song and not airing it.
Thanks again.
omg who is little suzie in the song?
Пора переименовать блог, присвоив название связанное с доменами 🙂 может хватит про них?
Подойдя к второму обзацу необходимо будет побороть в себе желание его пропустить
Ой, благодарю
Как всегда на высоте!
